Alfa Romeo GTA- Teledials

Today, absolute youngtimer classics such as the Alfa Romeo 156 GTA and its smaller sibling, the 147 GTA, are almost impossible to imagine without the original 17-inch wheels known as "Teledials". These now-legendary wheels refined the design of their predecessors—the 16-inch wheels found on standard production models of the Alfa 156, 147, GTV, and Spider, commonly nicknamed "Barques" (or Baroko). For the limited editions of the GTV 2.0 TS and 3.0 V6, a 17-inch version was also produced. Their design was sleek and rather elegant. However, it did not suit the GTA philosophy, leading to a transformation into a much more aggressive styling. In Italy, they bear the poetic name "Disegno a foro tondo" (round hole design). These wheels perfectly complemented the brutal, muscular bodywork of both flagship versions, powered by the legendary 3.2L V6 Busso engine.

In original production for the 147 GTA and 156 GTA models, the Teledial wheels existed basically in a single standard specification and always in a silver finish. Naturally, Alfa Romeo did not manufacture the wheels themselves. The main supplier and manufacturer of these OEM wheels was the renowned Italian foundry Toora (which also made the famous 18-inch Jetfin wheels for the Alfa GT), with the manufacturing giant Speedline secondary involved in the original equipment production.
The first versions of the 156 GTA and 147 GTA rolled off the factory line with 305mm front Brembo brakes. However, these were prone to warping during spirited driving. As a result, Alfa Romeo replaced the brakes with a more massive 330mm system as part of a free recall campaign. The original 17" Teledial wheels had such specifically shaped spokes on the inner side that they comfortably cleared these larger 330mm calipers! While many aftermarket 17" wheels struggled with clearance, the factory Teledials were ready for the big Brembos.
Weight: for top-tier sports cars, these alloy wheels were relatively heavy (one wheel weighs around 9.5 to 10 kg). Despite this, they provided the excellent rigidity required to handle the heavy front end packed with the Busso engine.
Factory alternatives: although the 5-hole Teledials are the most famous, Alfa Romeo offered a second type of factory 17-inch wheel for the 147/156 GTA—sharp-edged, multi-spoke wheels, which, however, never achieved the same level of fame. The GTA originals featured 14 square-edged spokes. Wheels with a very similar design were later supplied for the Alfa GT; however, those have 15 spokes. The two designs are frequently confused.
Today, well-preserved original 17" GTA Teledials with a 5x98 bolt pattern are a highly prized collector's item, as many fell victim to corrosion, curb rash, or poor-quality refurbishments.
